Essex Summer of Art 2019

Sep 12, 2019 - Sep 26, 2019

Rochford Art Trail is an established and award-winning event on the Essex cultural calendar. This year’s Art Trail will run from Thursday 12th September until Thursday 26th September.

Now in its eleventh year, the Art Trail showcases local art, craft and design in shops, businesses and public spaces around the historic market town Rochford, in South Essex.

Rochford is a historic Market Town with its Town Centre containing many listed buildings, and the Market Square which in days gone by used to host the local livestock market. Today, the Tuesday market continues, although not with livestock. There are many local landmarks, including The Lawn, Rochford Hall, St Andrews Church, and the “Old House” in South Street.  Many of these have been venues for our trail over the years.

Rochford was also the Chief Town of the Rochford Hundred, a sub-division of Essex. As part of an historic coaching route, Rochford has many local byways, the most well-known being Ironwell Lane. The town is the main settlement in the Rochford district, and takes its name from Rochefort, Old English for Ford of the Hunting Dogs.

The Art Trail attracts visitors from across the region and further afield, who follow a route around the town to view and buy work from emerging and established artists, designers and makers, as well as from art groups.

Additionally, during this year's event there will be several opportunities to enjoy fascinating Art Trail Walking Tours.

Rochford Art Trail is being enabled by Rochford Parish Council and local artists with enthusiastic support from local volunteers and generous local corporate sponsorship.
