A small grant boost to provide performance opportunities for young musicians

Date published: 06/06/2017

Full Story:

The Harwich based ‘We are Music’ received £1,500 through Essex County Council’s Culture in Essex Small Grants Scheme for the ‘Get Known, be Heard’ project.

The project will support young musicians and promoters by offering technical support and performance opportunities at a wide range of events in the Tendring and Colchester area this summer. This will range from local festivals to acoustic nights.

Chris Scott, Chairman of the ‘We are Music’ project said: “The contribution from Essex County Council will enable us to work with young people to increase opportunities for them to perform and be seen by a larger audience. Without this support we could not involve as many young people in the delivery of events and provide them with the chance to help organise events. We hope that it will enable us to establish a template to gain further funding for the young promoters project.”

Cllr Barker, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Customer said “We are delighted to support young musicians in Essex by providing funding for the ‘Get known, be heard’ project. It is vital that young musicians have the opportunity to perform at events and showcase their talents in order to inspire them to get involved in music.”

Small Grant Awards, totaling £25,800, will benefit 16 cultural Essex-based projects this year.
